in the battleground blitz in wisconsin, nevada, and colorado. when he makes his final campaign stop in des moines, iowa, at a rally with the first lady, that's the only stop that she joins him on. the president will have visited eight of the nine battleground states. the one that he's not going to is north carolina. the 2012 presidential election could hinge on this, will the firewall of iowa, ohio, and wisconsin hold up? and you only have to look at the president's travel over the last five days of the campaign to find out that's where the campai campaign believes the race will be decided. one of them has to be the state of ohio. the president has events in ohio four out of five days on the trail. he stopped in iowa, wisconsin, and colorado two times, each will be in florida and virginia, new hampshire, nevada just once before this campaign is over. today the president will begin laying out what aides say is his closing argument, making a stronger case for government. he will point to the way forward to real change. it will say this apparently in his stump speech that will create a stronger futu

of the hour we'll take you to nevada and wisconsin. first, back to sole dad. >>> at the end of the day, it's all going to be about the math. in order to win, you have to hit the magic number of 270 electoral votes. let's get to christine romans who is crunching the numbers. >> the rose to 270. what if it were a draw at 269? it's possible. there are four 269 scenarios. statistically, there are 120 different scenarios. four with the swing states. this is hypothetical, remember. the map is assuming that states that are actually leaning go in the direction that they're leaning right now. wisconsin, ohio, and new hampshire, new hampshire with the four electoral votes, if they go for obama and romney wins nevada, colorado, iowa, virginia, and the 29 over there in florida, then you're at a tie. worst nightmare for both parties. 269 each. now a note for iowa here, this is assuming it goes red, it goes for romney with the six electoral votes. recent polls there showing a slight lead, actually, for obama. if wisconsin and ohio vote democrat, you know, technically you could think -- you could conclud

in wisconsin. miguel marquez is in nevada. once again, ohio critical battleground state. the state's 18 electoral votes are the second biggest swing state prize behind florida. tell us, first of all, the strategy for the president and mitt romney in ohio. we are just talking just hours away from when people actually start voting. >> you're right. there's a sense here that things are really building to something very critical, but until the strategy question you, and it's simple. they have to get in the last word, and then their organization is getting out the vote, and it's the getting out of the vote, especially in ohio and the other swing states, that is going to be key. organization. that's truly going to play a factor. the lindz were big other the weekend, but they have been building throughout the day today, and you really get a sense from people here that they know ohio is a critical state, and this is a crucial time to all of them. they've been serving hot coffee to people in loin. the police are here to make sure they keep growing. they've been bothered by all those robo calls,

and in colorado, nevada, places where he feels like they need to have that firewall where even if romney wins ohio, if the president can hold those states and keep romney from picking one of those off, which he'd still have to do even if he won ohio, they can still win the election. he's camping out in those places and spending more time there than down in florida or in virginia or a couple other of the really big states where there are a lot of electoral votes in the south. >> no doubt that the two candidates are the big pieces. other things to watch tonight and through the weekend, first lady, michelle obama, joe biden, also big ohio presence this weekend. president clinton on the democratic side doing a lot of campaigning. and tonight in ohio near cincinnati, romney, ryan, their families, and all their major surrogates, minus chris christie are going to be doing a big rally, john mccain, marco rubio, rob portman, one big rally in ohio and then spreading out. that's going to be a big event. and major surrogate action on both sides, nobody believing anything, as we like to say, on the field. >> a

-voting numbers in these battleground states i was in nevada and those early voting numbers are really good. so i would -- i think numbers don't lie, and you have got to look at the turnout so far. >> stephanie: i haven't north carolina. do you know -- what are the latest numbers you have heard? >> it just seems like you know, african american students, they are discouraged, they are not going to turn out, blah blah blah. well, so far they have been turning out and turning out in huge numbers. north carolina was exceedingly close in 2008 so look it is going to be tough, but it certainly isn't this -- it's interesting. the pundits write off certain states, i think in part to make it a horse race. >> stephanie: yeah, sure. >> romney has north carolina so we can give that to his total, and how close can we make this, but the truth is you know, the only thing we can really say is it is incumbent upon every citizen to express their viewpoint by voting and participating, and the numbers will be what they will be. >> stephanie: ben, in the state where you went to school virgi
